Cox Plate Day 2008 will go down as the best in history for Mark Kavanagh.
Winning the Cox Plate with Maldivian, AAMI Vase with Whobegotyou and the Jayco Crystal Mile with Sea Battle is a major achievement for Mark and his team. And let's not forget Queen's Kiss in Adelaide, making it 4 winners from 5 runners on the day. As Kav Club members will know from their regular weekly reports, Mark has gone into every one of Maldivian's races this season expecting him to run a good race. However well documented problems with his breathing (getting his tongue back) prevented Maldivian from putting in his best performance at the business end of a race. The addition of a tongue tie solved that problem, so all that was left was to switch on Maldivian so he would feel like winning again. Again the addition of blinkers and a bit of jumping did the trick. Photo: Quentin Lang
